Troubleshooting plugin errors

If you’re reading this, you probably ran into an error in the Uncanny Automator recipe builder.

Due to the unparalleled flexibility of WordPress, conflicts between plugins, themes, or settings are not uncommon.

There are a number of steps you can be take to try to identify and resolve the issue. If you have a staging site or a site under development that’s not yet live, you can go ahead and perform these steps right away. However, if your site is live, it would be best to first create a staging site (which we recommend all WordPress sites have) before you try the steps below, to avoid potential disruption for users and visitors.

  1. Make sure you’re using the latest versions of Uncanny Automator, Uncanny Automator Pro and WordPress.
  2. If you’re running the latest versions, the next thing to check for is a conflict with another plugin.  Try temporarily disabling all plugins except Uncanny Automator to see if the error persists.
    • If the error goes away with plugins deactivated, try reactivating groups of plugins to try to isolate which plugin is conflicting.
      • Once you’ve identified the specific plugin causing the issue, see if there’s an update available for the plugin. If there is, update the plugin to the latest version.
      • If updating the plugin fails to resolve the issue, reach out to our support team and let them know which plugin is causing the issue.
    • If the error doesn’t go away with plugins deactivated, move on to step 2.
  3. It’s also possible that some code in your theme is conflicting with Uncanny Automator. Try switching temporarily to another theme and then check if the error persists.
    • If the error goes away on a different theme, reach out to our support team and let them know which theme is causing the issue.
    • If the error doesn’t go away with plugins deactivated and on a different theme, move on to step 3.
  4. While it’s fairly rare, it’s possible that an incompatible browser or browser extensions are causing the issue.  Try updating your browser to the latest version, and using Uncanny Automator in an incognito window to rule out a conflicting browser extension.

If all of the above steps fail to resolve the issue, reach out to our support team. Here’s some info that would help us troubleshoot:

  1. If the error just recently started occurring, let us know about anything that changed recently on your WordPress site (plugin updates, new custom code, etc.)
  2. The name of your WordPress host
  3. Any caching plugins you are running or that’s running on your WordPress host (that you’re aware of)
  4. The system report available in your WordPress admin menu at Automator > Status

Thanks, and we’ll get you up and running as quickly as possible.
