Why Track H5P Content Completions in Google Sheets?

WordPress users don’t often think of using external apps to help improve their website and workflows. However, tracking H5P content completions in Google Sheets can improve your WordPress website in many ways.

Education administrators and instructors as well as training and compliance officers will love this H5P + Google Sheets integration. Here are the top five reasons why you should track H5P completions in Google Sheets.

  1. Progress Monitoring and Accountability
Tracking H5P completions in Google Sheets allows for easy monitoring of individual or group progress in completing the interactive content. This tracking helps to ensure that learners are engaging with the material and making progress in a timely manner.
  2. Performance Analysis and Improvement
By recording H5P completions, educators and content creators can analyze how learners are interacting with the content. This analysis can identify areas where learners may be struggling or excelling, enabling adjustments to the content to enhance effectiveness and learning outcomes.
  3. Individualized Learning Paths
Tracking H5P completions can provide insights into each learner’s progress and preferences. This information can be used to tailor subsequent learning experiences, creating personalized learning paths that match each learner’s pace, style, and level of understanding.
  4. Attendance and Participation Records
H5P completions can serve as a measure of attendance and participation in online courses or training sessions. By tracking when learners complete H5P activities, instructors can have a clear record of engagement and participation for grading purposes or course evaluation.
  5. Data-Driven Decision Making
Utilizing Google Sheets to track H5P completions allows for the collection of data that can inform data-driven decision-making. This can include decisions related to instructional design, content improvement, resource allocation, and overall course or program evaluation based on completion rates and patterns.

By integrating H5P completion tracking into Google Sheets with Automator, you can make informed decisions. In the next sections, we’ll show you how to enhance the learning experience and optimize the effectiveness of educational materials.

Step 1: Create a New Recipe

Step 2: Name Your Recipe

As a WordPress wizard, you know that good spells have names—and so do good Automator recipes. We recommend coming up with a naming convention for your recipes that makes them easy to recognize at a glance. For example, we’ve named this Track H5P Content Completions in Google Sheets.

Step 3: Configure Your Trigger(s)

In the Triggers panel, from the menu of available integrations, click on H5P.

From the drop-down list that appears, select A user completes H5P content.

Automator will prompt you to select the H5P content completions that you want to track in Google Sheets. You can select Any content if you want to capture all content completions or something specific.

After selecting your content, click Save. Your action should look something like this:

Step 5: Configure Your Action(s)

In the Actions panel, click on Add action. From the menu of available integrations, click on Google Sheets.

Click Connect account and follow the prompts.

After you’ve connected your Google account to Automator, return to the recipe editor. From the drop-down list that appears, select Create a row in a Google Sheet.

Automator will prompt you to select the specific Drive, Spreadsheet and Worksheet where you would like to track content completions.

After locating the worksheet where you want to track content completions, click Get columns.

(Note: Automator will take the first value in each populated column from your worksheet and put it in a Column field as a column heading.)

We’re going to use tokens (dynamic pieces of data pulled from across your WordPress website and even from within recipes) to fill out the Value fields. In other words, we want to create new rows of data in our Google Sheets worksheet with dynamic content.

To select a token, click on the Asterisk in each Value field and select the dynamic data that corresponds to your Column heading. For example, we have selected the Content token from our H5P trigger to populate the Content column our Google Sheet and the User first name token to populate the corresponding column.

Once you have filled in each Value field with your desired token or value, click Save. Your action should look like this:

Step 5: Go Live!

You’re just about to track your H5P content completion in Google Sheets! All that’s left for you to do is to toggle your recipe from Draft to Live.

More H5P Integrations with Uncanny Automator

Uncanny Automator has 200 integrations with more on the way all of the time. That means that there’s no shortage of amazing recipes you can make with H5P to improve your interactive content.

Here are just a few of the recipes that we know will help you to get the most out of your interactive content.

Connect H5P to Your CRM

Once you’ve started tracking your users’ H5P content completions, you can easily start to personalize their learning experience. Connect H5P to your CRM of your choice—from ActiveCampaign to Mailchimp and MailPoet—to give your users the content that they interact with most.

h5p-google-sheets-mailpoet-integration

In the recipe pictured above, for example, we’re keeping track of the users who complete any of our H5P content at least five (5) times. With a second action, we then add these very active users to our Exclusive H5P Mailing List in MailPoet because we know they’ll love that content too.

Connect H5P to LearnDash

H5P integrates seamlessly with LMS such as LearnDash. That’s part of what makes it a favorite interactive content creation plugin for WordPress users. However, with Automator, you can further increase the level of integration between H5P and LearnDash to further improve user engagement.

h5p-learndash-google-calendar

In the recipe pictured above, we’re able to give our LearnDash users the help they need to further their learning. Using Automator’s loops feature, we’re able to enroll every user who has scored less than 60% on any of our interactive content to a Remedial Course. A second action invites the user to a Google Calendar event to discuss the Remedial Course.

You can even add filters to the looped action(s) to target only certain LearnDash users, as we did with the modified actions pictured below.

Connect H5P to WooCommerce

Connecting your content creation plugin to your e-commerce platform seems like a no-brainer. With Uncanny Automator, connecting H5P to WooCommerce is actually so easy that it barely requires a brain.

h5p-woocommerce-convertkit-integration

In the recipe pictured above, we’re able to reward our users with $5 in store credit if they receive a score of 85% or more for any of our H5P content. A second action tags the user in ConvertKit so we can keep track of who took advantage of our amazing offer.

Conclusion

So, there you have it! You’ve cast a spell to bridge the gap between H5P and Google Sheets! Now you’re never more than a wave of the wand (or a few clicks) away from effortless tracking, instant updates and easy reporting.
